Il programma ebbe inizio nel 1993 con una sola tipologia di corso, quello Base, e negli anni successivi, proprio per soddisfare le richieste crescenti dei Clienti, si è sviluppato in altri 3 livelli di difficoltà progressiva: Avanzato, Evoluzione e Challenge.Dal 1993 al 2008 hanno partecipato ai corsi oltre 4.000 Clienti da tutto il mondo.

Nel 2007 i corsi Pilota Ferrari hanno avuto complessivamente più di 700 iscritti. Di questi, oltre 400 per i corsi tenuti a Fiorano: il 17% proveniente dall'Italia, il 55% da altri mercati europei, il 13% dall' America e il restante 15% da Australia e Asia.In Medio Oriente sui circuiti di Losail in Qatar e di Sakhir in Bahrain hanno partecipato più di 100 Clienti già nel 2005.In Cina hanno partecipato più di 80 Clienti in 3 diversi circuiti: Shanghai, Beijing and Zhuhai. In Nord America, sul circuito di Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, hanno presso parte alle sessioni della Ferrari North America Driving School più di 200 persone.

A partire dal 2008, è stato inoltre avviato il corso speciale “Pilota Ferrari on Ice”.
